Mordred's words of loneliness richoeted through Ailey's mind. An image of him appeared as he meandered through the ghostlike streets of Hogsmeade under a cold night sky. Hogsmeade was an eerie place at such times. A village of its size was always quiet in the dark... it had a special way of making the midnight dwellers and late night thinkers crush under the weight of its smallness. A memory surfaced of the Armenian village she was living in the night after Jack left. She lay sprawled on the dying winter grass, staring up at the clearest sky she had ever seen in her life.

Not another soul moved around. The only sound was the rustling of leaves from a thicket of trees behind the ancient dilapidated church where most of her research was focused. And then, as sudden as volcanic eruption, tears streamed down her face. She felt so empty and so lost. What was life supposed to be like without Jack around? What could she had done better to make him stay? The vastness of the night sky above her only made her feel more alone... the infinity of it all was just as infinite as the pain that she felt.

She could only imagine how horrible Mordred felt.

Just as her time on the grass in Armenia had its own infinity - the next two moments had an infinite amount of minuscule moments in between them. She wasn't sure what it was in those infinite specks of time that made her reach her hand out and put it over Mordred's. She wasn't sure if he'd pull away or if he'd react badly, but all she knew was that whatever he was feeling she had to say it: "You're never alone anymore"

A fraction of time past by and as Ailey held her hand over his, she looked up at Melody who seemed to be struggling with what Mordred had been telling her. Ailey knew that it tore her apart to know that he was having such a difficult time, that he had to feel the way he felt... but Ailey knew it was only a matter of time before everything would change. She wished there was a way she could voice this to her friend.

Soon, Melody was speaking. Her own eyes were filled with tears. It was already so much with Mordred - and as Melody spoke about Morgana and how much it pained her to be away, Ailey could feel her heart breaking. All of them were alone in their respective ways. But it was their loneliness that also brought them together. "Morgana loves you very much," Ailey responded to Melody. It felt like the right thing to say... the right reminder. "She always will. Always. That much is so clear."

At that moment Tobias stood up and walked across the room. Ailey wished she could just fix everyone and make their pain go away, but this was all a part of the process. It was necessary. By the end of it all they would feel as if a giant weight had been lifted from their life. Or at least that was what she hoped. It destroyed her to see her best friend in pain... and although her relationship with Jasper was raveling away into another dimensions were old loves go, she too wished she could tell him. To have that comforting and warm feel of his arms around her... to help through everything that was so dark and cruel in the world.

It took awhile for Tobias to speak. He was a man of little words, but Ailey was unsurprised with what he said. He was a solitary man and not always by choice. Part of her wondered if it was rational or if it was paranoia that kept him away from England. Maybe it was a mix of both. Whatever it was, Tobias felt as if he didn't have meaning in his life... this was heartbreaking to Ailey... a theme that was common throughout the evening. As someone who only wanted the world to be fair, he had so much meaning and purpose... it just seemed as if he lost himself along the way. Ailey made a note to share this with him later during one of their one-on-one sessions.

She knew it was best not to push it any further as he stood with his back still facing them. Instead she allowed a few moments to pass before it was her time to share.

Did she want to?

It was something she never told anyone.

But it had to be done.

A lump formed in her throat as she swallowed and felt her insides feel weightless. Her tiny hands shook as she sat forward on the couch and stared at them on her lap.

She suddenly felt so frail - as if the smallest of emotions would unveil her. Nothing felt real... nothing was real anymore.

"I miss him," she whispered, staring determinedly down at her hands. "I miss our laughs. I miss the way the world seemed to be filled with so much color when we were together. But now all I see is shades of gray," she snickered at the ironic usage of words."I cried the night before I left. My daughters were in the next room, so small, so vulnerable, so... so innocent. And their father was nowhere in sight. Maybe he was at The Three Broomsticks... maybe he was in his loft or with his parents, who knew?

Ailey felt the cold sting of tears forming in her eyes. Her heart felt so empty. "The love I felt was so real... and now it's nothing. Now it's gone. I don't think I'll ever find it again. It's so cruel... it's so cruel to just disappear." The blonde woman choked as her tears fell down her pale cheeks, blurring her freckles on their way down.

Mordred was okay with Ailey touching his hand. He could feel the compassion that she had. There was something about those beautiful eyes that he couldn't get over. When he looked in Melody's eyes, he saw his sister. Someone who would love him until the world ended- possibly longer than that. He saw the one who never ever gave up on him. He saw someone he knew he could trust. When he looked into Ailey's eyes he saw- he didn't know what to call it. A friend? A mentor? Mordred had never really had friends before. He never had someone who wasn't family or someone who wanted to hurt him.

Without really noticing it, he found himself holding Ailey's hand. A feeling went through him that he had never felt before. It was a feeling of safety, happiness, and peace all in one. At the same time, but with something else. He couldn't figure out what it was. He looked into those beautiful eyes again and felt a smile form on his face. He looked back down at his hand in hers. His wrists were visible but he didn't pull away and cover them up. Instead he just looked back up at Ailey with that smile still on his face. "Thank you." He said softly. He gently, but kindly pulled away from Ailey and rested his hand on his lap.

Next, Melody spoke. Every word that came out of her mouth broke his heart more and more. He knew she was scared about all this, but he didn't know she was this scared. More than anything he wanted to take it all away. He had never seen his sister cry so much. He wondered if she ever had cried that much. He wanted to pull her in for a hug but something told him not to. He sat back and looked at her for the first time after he spoke. She was a mess. He hated to see her so distressed. He wished none of this had to happen.

When Melody finally stopped speaking she broke down again. He could see her trying to calm down, but not really succeeding. Before he had a chance to think about what to say or do to help her, Tobias was offering her tissues and Ailey was speaking to her about Morgana and the love she had for her. Mordred had the same love. He knew the love that came from Morgana was different but his love was just as strong. He was her older brother and he was going to live up to that for his entire life.

Mordred was expecting Ailey to speak next but Tobias surprised him by speaking. Mordred found himself listening to every single word that came out of his mouth. Mordred found a new respect for Tobias. He only lived the first eight years of his life with a family. He didn't know what it felt like to love someone who wasn't family. He hoped to find it one day. He believed it wasn't hopeless. But that's something he knew nothing about so he couldn't say much about it.

Next, Ailey started speaking. Mordred didn't know exactly what she was talking about, but he could make some assumptions. Ailey was a mother and there had to be a father. Maybe something was going on with the father. As she continued speaking, his questions were quickly answered. He felt his heart breaking. Just like he felt it break with Melody. He didn't understand why he felt like that. He had never felt that for anyone before. During the five months he was out he found a ton of new emotions. Just nothing like this.

Mordred then did something that even surprised him. He couldn't stop himself. It just happened. He stood up and sat next to Ailey. He pulled her in close and hugged her tightly. He hated that she was in pain. He ran his fingers gently through her hair. Everything that he did felt so natural and normal. He didn't know how or why he did what he did. He looked up at Melody who looked just as shocked as he felt. He felt a little smile form on his face. He saw a smile form through Melody's tears. Mordred nudged his head slightly over to Tobias who was distressed as well although he was good at hiding emotions. Melody looked over at him. He seemed to cutting himself off.

He watched as his sister grabbed the tissue box and offered it to Tobias. Mordred didn't know how he would react to it. He just hated to see someone who obviously was not okay to be so cut off. That's how he was his whole life and he didn't want anyone to be experiencing that.

Melody watched the interaction between Mordred and Ailey after he spoke. She loved how comfortable Mordred was around Ailey. She had never seen something like that come from him. Not once. There were even time where he wouldn't allow her to touch him. He could tell there was something special between Mordred and Ailey. She didn't know what it would turn into but she loved to think that Mordred just made his first and real and wonderful friend.

After she had her emotional talk she heard Ailey's words. She wanted to believe that with her whole heart but what if she was caught in this lie? She would have to keep lying. What would she say to cover it up to Morgana? What if she lost Morgana? What if she thought...? Melody couldn't stand to think about it. She couldn't lose Morgana. If she had to lose her life to tell the truth she would. Morgana deserved all the happiness in the world and Melody feared she couldn't give that to her with lies.

Tobias was next. Melody wasn't expecting something so emotional. She steadied her breathing as much as she possibly could to not draw attention away from him. She was still torn up on the inside but this wasn't all about her. This was hard for all of them. She hated that this all had to happen. The guilt was tearing her up. She regretted everything right now. She looked around the room at everyone who was clearly distressed. This was all her fault. She caused all these people to have to open up to strangers and talk about things that made them feel awful. Why did she make these people do this?

That is when Ailey started speaking. Even before she could say her next sentence Melody felt her eyes fill with more tears. She could feel Ailey's pain. She hated that she had to go through this. It wasn't fair. She deserved all the love and happiness in the world. Why did it always have to be against her? She wanted to knock some sense into Jasper. He had two new babies at home along with adopted children and a wife that sacrificed so much for him. Why wasn't he with her?

Before Melody had a chance to run up to her and hug her, Mordred was there. She sat in complete shock. Her brother- the one who was tortured and hated most physical contact even from her was hugging and holding her best friend tightly. And he seemed okay with it. His eyes met hers. She saw just as much shock and confusion in him as she felt. But she also that sparkle in his eye again. Twice in one day. That was so beautiful to see. She felt a smile form across her face as he smiled. Mordred found his friend. Who better than Ailey?

Melody saw a signal from her brother to do something about Tobias. No one should be alone during all this. Although she was still crying herself, she grabbed the tissue box and offered it to Tobias with the best smile she could pull off in that moment. She was beginning to trust him more and more. She still felt that this was the wrong decision and she hated herself for it. But if anyone had to be doing this, she was glad it was Tobias, Ailey, and Jack.

Tobias felt his thoughts running through his mind at an unfathomable pace. He wasn't sure what was happening around him. The others felt like they were worlds away. Most who met him assumed he was someone cut off from the outside world who hated everything to do with people. That wasn't true at all. Interacting was difficult but he didn't hate anyone. It was quite the opposite, he just wanted a world where everyone could live peacefully beside one another.

As he stared at the wall with his back to his visitors, he raised up his hands he brushed them through his fine dark hair. It was at a longer length than he normally had it, but he found that it was fitting for his current mood. A ticking of a clock could be heard chiming from the kitchen on the other side of the wall. Five in the evening. It was nearing dinner. Dropping his arms to his side, he slowly tuned in to hear Ailey, Melody, and Mordred. The woman he knew as someone who was always so optimistic sounded as if she was crying. She said something about a father disappearing. Was she talking about Jasper Gray?

He could not help but feel a twinge of annoyance. How could anyone just walk away? Of course, he didn't know all of the details - in fact, he himself just walked away. Nonetheless, they had babies together. He wondered what her daughters looked like. The same feeling he had when seeing Theodore hold his own daughter filled his heart. It seemed unlikely he would ever get that. Nobody wanted to live a life bunkered away in the middle of the Black Forest. Not even he wanted that.

He wasn't sure what was happening behind him but other than no words were being spoken. Next thing he knew, Melody was beside him with his tissue box in her hands. He smiled at her and took one from the box, dabbing away at his eyes. "Thank you," he uttered. Maybe this was what he needed - to be around people with like minded thoughts and emotions. Although he felt sad... he also felt another feeling emerging. One of hope.

The touch of Mordred's arms around her felt so foreign. For a moment she thought it was Melody, but the extra weight on her back made her think otherwise. Surely it wasn't Tobias hugging her; she could still see the edge of his silhouette standing on the other side of the room through her periphery vision. She looked up from her tears and was surprised to find herself looking into his blue eyes. Automatically she averted her attention to Melody, who's expression mirrored her own.

But the surprise didn't stop there. As she cried he ran his fingers through her hair. The next step seemed to natural to her as she didn't even think about it; she leaned her head against him and let her tears fall. Human contact was exactly what she needed and he seemed to sense that.

Ailey then watched as Melody approached Tobias and handed him the box of tissues. Despite Tobias being a rather reclusive stranger, Melody accepted him as if he was nothing less than a family member. That was one of the many things she adored about her best friend - her ability to love every single human unconditionally. Tobias accepted the tissue from her and gave her a smile. He wasn't a man that spoke a lot, but often actions spoke louder than words. And this was definitely one of those moments. For Tobias to do such a thing showed that he truster Melody and Mordred... that he was as ready as anyone could be for the next few weeks.

~ ~ ~

Ailey then turned to Mordred after dabbing at her eyes with the end of her colorful scarf. "Thank you, thank you so much for your kindness to me... to a stranger," she whispered, just loud enough for him to hear. There was something about his touch that was different, something that was accepting and warm. Not too dissimilar from when she hugged Melody. Perhaps it was a family thing. Maybe everyone in their family was gentle.

But as she looked into his eyes she felt something else. Unbeknownst to her, she was feeling the same feeling as Tobias: hope.

~ ~ ~

Not long after Ailey heard the clock clicking away. Her eyes peered out the window at the dark sky as her stomach rumbled. It was nearing dinner time. Her first thought was to go and feed Shiloh and Ceres but they were so far away. Her heart ached with the lack of their presence. She stood up from the couch, but not after giving Mordred a tight squeeze on his hand. Smiling kindly at him, she walked over to Tobias. "As your the only one with magic, what's for dinner?" It made her happy to see that crooked grin of his. He said no words other than holding his fingers to his lips and walking away, down a hallway that she presumed led to the kitchen.

She then turned to Melody and wrapped her arms around her. "I'm so proud of you," she whispered.

Mordred loved holding Ailey close to him. She felt her rest her head against him. It all felt so natural. He loved it. He never wanted to let her go. He wondered if that was how Melody felt around him. The hugs between himself and Melody often lasted a long time. Her grip never loosened. He was the one to pull away. But this time he didn't. He wasn't going to pull away. Ailey would be the one to pull away because Mordred wasn't letting go.

Mordred felt Ailey softly pull away. She still head tears streaming down her face which she wiped away. Her soft voice filled his ears and made him smile. "Just like you said earlier, anyone that Melody loves I love too." He smiled happily before brushing a few strands of hair out of Ailey's face. It was then that he really noticed her beauty. She was indeed beautiful. Those eyes were breathtaking. He hadn't seen much of her smile, but he didn't doubt its beauty.

His heart ached for everyone's heart ache. Why did everything always have to be so hard? He looked around at everyone in the room. They all had their own story. Their own struggles and their own problems. They had all sacrificed something at one point in their lives. What made them want to help him? What made them want to sacrifice all of this for him? What did he do to deserve all this? Despite all those questions he was grateful. He was ready to hopefully a true sense of peace.

He felt his hands being squeezed. Before he had much of a chance to react Ailey walked away. He did see a smile. He felt his heart skip a beat. It was beautiful. He didn't realize he was hungry until Ailey said something. Mordred was still learning how to eat properly but he found himself hungry every once a while. He watched Tobias walk away and hoped to get some food in his stomach.

He then saw Ailey embrace Melody. He looked down at the ground and zoned out so he wouldn't eavesdrop. He found himself being consumed by even more thoughts. Thoughts about his past. More and more horrors began to flood through his head. Every once and a while this would happen and he couldn't stop it. All he could do was close his eyes and live through it until it went away. He fiddled with his subtly and nervously. He never knew how long this type of thing would last. He took a silent deep breath in and waited for the horror to end.

Melody found herself watching the interaction between Mordred and Ailey. She had never ever seen Mordred do this anyone outside her. And then he rarely did this with her. There was something special about Mordred and Ailey. She couldn't wait to see what their future held. She knew they would be wonderful friends. If Mordred already trusted her enough to do this- that was huge. She loved to see her brother so trusting. For a single moment, everything felt normal. Her brother hugging her best friend as she cried. She saw him living a normal life. She sensed no pain or sadness or fear. She wanted the rest of Mordred's life to be like this.

She smiled back at Tobias after he smiled at her. "You're welcome." Melody said kindly. She was starting to trust Tobias more and more. She knew appearances weren't everything but it was hard to get past those sometimes. She never knew why she was like that. She tried to love everyone but after everything with Mordred... she found it so hard. She wondered if she would ever be able to trust normally again.

She felt Ailey wrap her arms around her. What she said next made the tears flow again. She held Ailey tightly sobbing. "Why would you be proud of me? I'm ruining your life." She said softly. She didn't intend on saying that. It just kind of came out of her mouth. "You have two little girls at home that need their mother. You're struggling with Jasper and I pulled you only to make things worse because of the-" Melody couldn't bring herself to say it. She didn't want to. "I shouldn't have done this." Melody whispered to herself. "I'm so sorry." Melody said as she continued to hug her best friend.

Melody loved Ailey so much. Melody couldn't imagine her life without Ailey. She took in that moment- Ailey's loving arms around her, her brother safe and in her sight, a man who didn't know her inviting her to his home to help her. What did she do to deserve all this love? What would she do without Ailey? Where would she be without Ailey in her life? She hated to think about it. Ever since Day 1, Melody thought about Ailey. She was always in her life and always would be.

After dinner Tobias showed everyone to their rooms on the second floor. His was on the top most third floor - made larger by magic. He then left them to unpack and settle in while he cleaned up. It was also for him to have a moment alone. Already it had been a long week. It was some of the most social interaction he had in a very long time. The last thing he wanted to do was open up, but he had to, it was important.

As he waved his hands around this way and that and watched as the dishes sparkled cleaned and settled into the cabinet. He could hear moving around and talking from upstairs. It was a bit unnerving, having other people in his home overnight. As he cleaned up the final dish and put away the leftover kielbasa, he walked over to the living room and sat down in his favorite chair beside the window.

He snapped his fingers and a moment later his favorite leather bound book landed on his lap. Smiling sadly, he opened it and slid his hand inside, retrieving the envelope given to him by his mother.

The photograph fell out once again and he put it beside him. Also inside the envelope was a letter, written by his mother. It read:

Dearest Son,

As you may have heard from your father's recent letter - Theodore and his wife Daphne gave birth to a baby girl. Her name is Leah (also known as hmmm....). Theodore asked me to write on his behalf to you, requesting your honorable duties as Godfather.

I do hope you can make it home for her Christening. We all miss you very much.

Love,
Mom.

Tobias re-read the letter for the seventieth time. He had been keeping count. The Christening wasn't for another month. Before the evening he would have never thought of going. But now he was having second guesses.

Tobias showed Ailey to a lavender colored room with large bay windows. Against the wall opposite the windows was an even larger bed with a fluffy white blanket. She wondered why he had so much space when he rarely had anyone except for Jack and his mother over. Was this usually his mother's room when she was over to stay? She spun around trying to see if there was anything motherly, but there wasn't. A few paintings hung on the wall. One of a sleeping man who appeared to be in front of a broom racing tournament. Ailey wondered if he had a twin painting elsewhere. Perhaps that was how Tobias stayed in contact with people.

She dropped her back on in a wardrobe and looked around the room. It was so quiet. Her daughters weren't the next door over, crying for her and Jasper's affection. And Jasper wasn't there. Not that it was anything new... but it was nice to have him come home and hold her while she slept, no matter how close it was to the end.

Ailey felt empty. Tears flooded her eyes as she glanced at the sleeping potion sitting on top of a dresser near the door. It was too soon to take it. But so tempting. Life without Jasper was a life she didn't like. All she wanted was his touch and to be holding their babies. But life often didn't work out the way one planned.

Moments later she found herself sobbing into her hands. She felt so alone.

After dinner, Tobias showed Mordred to a small room. It wasn't the prettiest room, but it was better than what he was used to have being with Tony for so long. He'd take any kind of bed over the cold hard ground. He wasn't ready to leave Melody quite yet. She told him she would be back after she got settled. Mordred still hated being away from Melody but he knew it wouldn't be for long. He smiled and walked into the room. The door shut behind him which made him jump a little. He took a deep breath to calm himself down.

He dropped his bag on the floor which made a soft sound. He unzipped the bag open and pulled out his sleepwear. He wasn't sure if he wanted to change into it yet. He pulled out a book to read in case he couldn't sleep. He felt pretty tired already so he didn't doubt that he wouldn't fall asleep. He just hoped he wouldn't have any nightmares tonight. He hadn't had them for a while and felt tonight would the kind of night to have one. Unfamiliar surrounds, uncertainty, fear... He shoved those feelings away as best he could.

Mordred zoned out which was very normal for him. He wasn't really thinking about much. His mind was just blank and empty. He wasn't thinking about anything. He couldn't feel anything. He couldn't see anything. He could never explain that to someone even if he tried. It wasn't like being unconscious or asleep. It was something far different. He felt so far away, yet so close. He felt happy yet sad. He felt stuck in some sort of limbo. This happened to him quite often. At least once a week. It wasn't a good or a bad thing. It was just- something that happened.

He was snapped back to reality by a light knocking sound on the door. Melody entered a few moments later wearing her own nightwear. A simple yet nice white silk gown. He hair was pulled up into a messy bun. She closed the door behind her and sat down next to Mordred asking him how he felt. "I'm okay, I guess." He responded. Melody of course expressed concern. She always did. "It just feels weird to be in a new surrounding. I'm not used to moving around this much or having this much freedom yet."

With that statement, he felt Melody grab his hands. He held onto them tightly and looked into her eyes. "Are you going to be okay for the night?" Melody asked him. He nodded. He was already tired. "I'll be fine. I'm pretty sure I'll sleep well." Mordred knew he probably wouldn't but he didn't want to worry his little sister. She had enough on her mind as it was.

Mordred suddenly hears soft sobbing sounds coming from another room. Melody gave him one of her usual looks. He knew exactly what it was. "Go. I will be fine." Melody started to argue with him, but he cut her off. "Go. I promise you I will be alright." Mordred smiled and nodded to reassure Melody. She smiled back before dashing out of the room and to Ailey.

Mordred sat on the side of the bed unsure of what to do. It was still early, but he was tired. Maybe he was ready for bed. He threw on his nightwear and crawled underneath the covers. The bed was quite comfortable. The pillow felt cool underneath his warm face. He was going to grab his book, but he found himself drifting into a calm deep sleep.

Melody followed Tobias up to a small room which he said Mordred would be sleeping in. Melody could tell Mordred wasn't quite ready to be on his own. "I'm just going to get settled and I'll be right in." She said with a smile. She walked away with Tobias to a room. "Thank you, Tobias." Melody said with a smile. She was glad she had a nice room to stay in during her time here. She hated that it wasn't the room Morgana had decorated for her but it was still a roof over her head, a mattress, pillows, and blankets. She had nothing to complain about.

Melody quickly showered and threw on her nightwear. She threw her hair up into a messy bun and quietly (in case Ailey had already fallen asleep) and quickly made her way to Mordred. She lightly knocked on the door before entering. She could tell she caught him in a moment. She softly closed the door and sat down next to him. She grabbed his hands. "Are you doing okay? I know today has been kind of crazy." She said with a small sigh. "Are you going to be okay for the night?" She asked. Melody didn't really believe his answer but after the long day she didn't have the energy to argue. She was sure Mordred didn't either.

Melody wasn't sure of what more she could say. Her emotions were so on edge. She didn't want to say anything wrong or make herself cry or anything else crazy. She took that little time of silence to take in the moment. She was sitting with her brother. He was safe for now and everything was okay. Well, mostly considering the situation.

She heard soft sobbing sounds coming from Ailey's room. She felt her heart break. She looked over at Mordred. Before she could open her mouth, he was telling her to go. "But, I can't leave you alone. Not when-" He cut her off telling her to go again. Melody loved her brother. His strength always surprised her. She smiled before running out of the room and down the hallway to Ailey's room.

Melody knocked lightly and entered. She felt her own eyes sting with tears when she saw Ailey. She walked up to her and held her tightly. "I'm here for you." She whispered into her ear. "I love you." Melody continued to hold Ailey tightly in her arms. She didn't know how long she sat there hugging Ailey, but she didn't care. She was just happy to be with her bestest friend.

Melody softly pulled away from Ailey and stroked the hair out of her face. "Come on, it's time for bed." She said with a small smile. She pulled the covers back and waited for Ailey to get underneath them. Once she was finally settled, Melody pulled the covers over her. Melody crawled into the bed herself and pulled the covers over her own body. She moved towards Ailey and hugged her again. "Get some rest." She said running her fingers through her hair.

Melody kept herself awake until Ailey drifted off to sleep. She didn't feel comfortable sleeping until her bestest friend was sleeping soundly. Once Melody was positive she was asleep she softly wrapped her arms around Ailey and hugged her again. Melody could feel Ailey's soft and steady breathing as she hugged her. She found herself almost mezmorized by it. She quickly found herself falling asleep.

Jack considered Tobias to be his best friend. He was the only person other than his wife and son that he saw on a relatively frequent basis. It wasn't until years after the strife with Ailey that caused the two to hate each other that they actually were on speaking terms. They realized that some sort of companionship built on trust was vital if they wanted to survive. Tobias' survival depended on his just as much as his depended on Tobias'.

They often found their selves working on tasks for each other. Whether this was fetching a particular wand wood only found in the black forest or breaking into the Ministry of Magic to steal important papers, the two were a team forced together by the weirdness of life. If it wasn't for Ailey, Jack and Tobias wouldn't know the other existed. Jack was seventeen and dating the bubbly blonde gal when she introduced them. It was for important people work, as she called it.

And now Ailey needed him for people work help. As did Tobias. He knew none of the details other than the fact that Ailey was staying with Tobias for some time and that there were two other people. Was one of them her fiance? She heard from Jamison that she was recently engaged. For some reason, he doubted this. Ailey only contacted Tobias and Jack during desperate and highly covert times.

Jack kissed his son and wife goodbye and stepped from out of his house at the end of a deserted village road in Spain. The moment the fresh air hit his face, he twisted on the spot. Seconds later he appeared out of thin air with a loud POP. Tobias' house remained unchanged from when he last visited six months previously. It never ceased to amuse him how predictable Tobias could be. With a quiet chuckle, Jack walked to the front door and gave a light knock.

The smell of morning sausages wafted through the door, making his stomach growl. He smiled and pat down his hair - which had a bad habit of messing itself up in the most palest of winds. The smile stayed plastered against his face until the door opened and a swoop of blonde hair and tiny limbs emerged from the other side, wrapping itself around him.

"Ailey,"
he said with another chuckle, dropping his brown leather bag on the ground to embrace her back. When she pulled away he was finally able to get a good glance at her face. The first one in many years. The last time he saw her they were both in South America doing work. He told her about the opportunity to teach at Hogwarts. Something that would help her get in with the Ministry overtime.

Although she wore a smile there was something inescapably sad masked underneath. Once upon a time, he was able to identify such emotions. It was what being in love with someone for nearly four years did.  But life changed. They made up - for the most part, although there were some strange emotions still lingering around. "Ailey," he repeated.

Tobias mostly stayed to himself during the morning. He woke up before anyone to make a full Irish breakfast, knowing that it might bring a smile to Ailey's face. Although they didn't see much of each other these days, she was still one of the most important people in his life. And it was important that she and her friends were as happy as they could be. After setting the breakfast over blue flames so it would stay warm for when the woke up, he left the cottage to meander through the nearby forest. It was his daily morning ritual: wake up, eat, meander... and get lost, lost in his thoughts, lost in the illusion of freedom.

He wasn't sure how much time had past as the sun started to cross its way overhead. It was late morning, judging by the low winter's sun position in the clear blue sky. Jack would most definitely already be there, probably sitting down and having a laugh with everyone. His younger friend always had such an amiable personality, people were drawn to his warmth and friendliness; this was something that Tobias always strived to be but people were just much too difficult for him.

Tobias turned on the spot and disappeared, reappearing moments later on the steps to his cottage. He lazily held out his hand and watched as the door opened. A smirk crossed over his face, he could not have been more right. Jack was sitting at the table re-telling what seemed to be a very exciting story to Ailey, who clung onto his every word. Some things never changed. He walked over to Jack and shook his hand, joining them at the table. At the very least, Jack could add in a pile of enthusiasm to the exhausting and depression lot they were already dealing with.

The last thing Ailey remembered was Melody holding her. She slowly opened her eyes and looked around. Melody was still in her bed but was sprawled out away from her. Ailey pushed a strand of her hair back and kissed her forehead. "Thank you," she whispered to her best friend. She had no idea how she was lucky enough to have someone as incredible as Melody in her life. For a few moments, she laid against the headboard and watched as the early morning sun sparkled through the window, flecks of dust dancing through the air. Melody looked so peaceful as she slept. It was almost as if they weren't going through something so heart-wrenching. With one last glance at her beautiful best friend, she slowly and carefully stood up.

A fuzzy pink bathrobe that she brought from home was hung on the back of her bedroom door. She lifted it up and wrapped herself in it as she slipped on a pair of soft slippers. The sound of sizzling sausages met her ears and was soon followed by a familiar small. Was Tobias making breakfast? Ailey was just about to step down the stairs when she paused at a closed door, one that she knew to be Mordred's room. She could not even begin to fathom what he was going through. The amount of bravery he had was astonishing. For some reason, this thought made her place her hand gently on the door, as if she could feel the bravery coming from the bedroom.

Ailey then stepped back and walked down the stairs. She found herself in an empty kitchen with food floating about blue flames. A smile formed on her face as she looked everything over: a full Irish breakfast. Ham, bacon, black and white puddings, eggs, toast, fried tomatoes.. just to start. Despite her stomach growling, she didn't feel hungry. It usually took an hour after waking up for her to feel the need to eat. Since she spent her night crying, her appetite was even more gone. Ailey brushed her hair behind her ear and sat down on the couch.

It was just her and the world. This made her feel extraordinary lonely.

Mordred sat on the edge of his bed as the sun started to shine through the window. He squinted as he looked out the window at the rising sun. He could already feel the warmth against his pale skin. Being locked up for 98% of his life made his skin so fair and pale. Just the slightest warmth from the sun caused his skin to heat up quickly. He moved away from the sunlight shining through the window into a shadowy section of the room. Where he sat wasn't very comfortable but he would rather be there than burning from inside the house.

Mordred hardly got any sleep the night before. The sleep he did get was restful but he was still tired. He sighed as he let his head fall back to wall behind him. He looked up at ceiling and drifted off into his thoughts. It was only day two and his anxiety was through the roof. He knew there was still a lot to do before anything real happened but he feared it. He didn't like to show his fear. He saw fear as a strong weakness that he would never be able to overcome. He had seen the look of fear in Melody's eyes- and now Ailey's. The girl he found himself connecting to quite quickly. The look he saw from the both of them always shattered his heart into a million pieces. He didn't want to do that to anyone else. He was very good at hiding his emotions.

That's what scared him the most. He wouldn't be able to hide them. Ailey had to know everything. There were things Mordred hadn't told Melody and he never planned on telling her. They were too dark. Too awful. It was hard enough for him to tell her what he could at St. Mungo's when he finally woke up. She was sobbing the whole time. Mordred could see a burning growing hatred forming in her eyes as she cried. A hatred for the world and humanity. The second he saw that look is when he knew there were things he had to hide. He couldn't let Melody's faith and hope- what made her Melody die. It was too beautiful.

What Mordred really wanted to do was sit and have a one-on-one conversation with Ailey. He had only ever had one-on-one conversations with three other people in his life. Tony, Melody, and Jennie. It was a rarity for him to want to talk to someone alone. With Tony, he had no choice. Although, he rarely said anything back when Tony talked to him. He learned quickly to not talk back to him unless he was ordered to. Even that ended badly. With Melody, he never feared talking. There were just things he held back. He loved his little and felt comfortable talking around her. But Jennie. Jennie was a different story. A very long and complicated story. Mordred hated to even think about it. But in order to get the things he wanted done, he knew he would have to tell Ailey.

He was pulled out of his thoughts by a knocking sound on his door. Shortly after, Melody entered. Within seconds, she was hugging him tightly. Mordred wrapped his arms around her and rested her head on her shoulder. He could feel Melody softly rubbing his back as she hugged him. His small small spread over his face and he hugged Melody tighter. Melody pulled away gently after a few long moments and looked at him. Her soft voice filled his ears. It was filled with concern. She wanted to know how he slept. "Not bad. But not well." He replied with a little shrug. Based on the non-refreshed look in her eyes, he assumed she didn't sleep well either. He just wanted all this to be over. He wanted to sleep peacefully for once and be away from fear. But he knew that couldn't happen until the process was over. And maybe even then it wouldn't happen.

"How is Ailey?" He asked curiously. Mordred found himself saying that without too much thought. It just felt natural to ask. Melody's response broke his heart. He knew she was struggling but he didn't know it was that bad. Melody didn't say much but he could tell from the look in her eyes that things weren't okay. Mordred thought of something kind he could for Ailey. There wasn't much he had but there was one thing that might make her smile. It wasn't much but it brought him hope in a time of darkness.

Melody and Mordred sat in silence for a few moments. The sunlight began to fill the room causing no escape place for Mordred. He sighed a little and took off his pajama top and threw on his regular long sleeve shirt. He turned back to see Melody sitting in silence. Her gaze was so far gone that he couldn't even begin to imagine what she was thinking. He walked over to her and extended his hand out for her to stand up. He pulled her off the ground and guided her to his bed. He sat down next to her and grabbed her hand. He looked into those beautiful blue eyes and saw the most pain he had ever seen in them. He pulled Melody into him and held her tightly. He felt her breathing become unsteady. He ran his hands carefully through her knotted hair which she obviously didn't take the time to brush before she came to see him. More than anything, Mordred wanted to take her pain away. It wasn't fair that she had to feel like this.

After a solid ten minutes of holding Melody close to him, he felt her breathing start to calm down. He looked down at her. Her eyes were closed and he could see tear stains on her cheeks along with fresh runs running down them. He wiped them away gently with his thumb. "I love you." He whispered into her ear. He heard her mumble I love you back through her tears. After another quick moment Melody pulled away and forced a smile out. Mordred felt himself frown a little when he saw her. Her eyes were red and puffy. The pain was still there. He grabbed her hand and gave it a comforting squeeze. "We should go down before they worry, I think." He stated. Melody nodded and guided him downstairs.

When Mordred arrived downstairs, he saw Ailey. But he also saw who he assumed was Jack. He was quite cheerful and seemed to be telling Ailey a story. He couldn't help but smile to see her so into it. There was a certain vibe in that room that just lifted Mordred's spirits a little. Maybe it was the fact that someone was there was a smile on his face gabbing away. Maybe it was the smells of a cooking breakfast that brought him back to his very early childhood before anything happened. Maybe it was seeing Ailey at least a little happy for the being. Maybe it was being with Melody. Whatever it was, he held onto it as he knew it wouldn't last long.

Melody groaned a little as the sunlight hit her eyes. She blinked a few times to try and get her eyes to adjust to the sudden brightness. She sighed softly as she stretched. She suddenly felt as if there was no one next to her. It hit her that she had slept with Ailey last night. She turned to see Ailey not there. She quickly sat up and looked around the room. She worried about where her best friend was and how she missed her that morning. She hopped out of bed and was just about to call out to her when she saw Ailey's bathrobe gone. She sighed with relief knowing she was probably just downstairs. She still felt terrible for missing her in the morning.

Melody sighed It was another day. She didn't feel like doing anything. She wanted to crawl back into that bed and bury herself under the covers. But she knew she couldn't do that. She threw on a tank top and comfortable pants and looked in the mirror. She looked an absolute mess. She sighed as she looked in her bag for her hairbrush but couldn't find it. Her hair was every which way. Out of frustration she gave up. "It will have to do." She mumbled to herself. Instinctively, she went to grab her wand from her bag but stopped herself. She had forgotten for a split second that it was gone. She sighed again as she walked out of the room.

She wanted to go see Mordred. That was the first thing she was going to do every single morning was go to him. It was rare that she got to do this outside of his time at St. Mungo's and she was going to take the opportunity. Even if it wasn't in the best of times. She wished it didn't have to be because of this. She wished she could just see him every morning, but she had to be at the Rosenberg Manor to take care of Morgana. Melody made her breakfast every single morning. When she found out that Morgana hadn't been eating properly since getting her new job, her first priority was making sure she was. Melody made sure she had at least one full healthy meal a day. Nothing less.

Melody gently knocked on Mordred's door and waited a few seconds before entering. She found him on the floor deep in thought that she had obviously pulled him out of. She quickly made her way over to him and hugged him tightly. She rubbed his back gently and hugged him for as long as she possibly could before wanting to speak to him. She pulled away gently and looked at him. He looked so tired. He had terrible dark circles under his eyes. "How did you sleep?" She asked. She knew what his answer would be, but she wanted to make sure he knew he could sleep better. Melody's thoughts wandered to the sleeping potion the worst and scary days that were to come. She hoped that he would take. She highly doubted it but if he was tired now, he would need it.

How was Ailey? Melody felt a few tears sting her eyes. Ailey was in so much pain. She was going through so much, yet she was still here doing this. "She's pushing through." Melody said softly. She didn't want to share too much more. "She's strong." She said forcing out a small smile. Melody thought about the night before where she found Ailey silently crying. What was going on in her life broke her heart. It wasn't fair. She shouldn't be here. She should be at home with her family. Not out in the middle of the woods.

Melody became lost in her thoughts. Her mind wandered to many many dark places. She wandered to a different world. She could see but she didn't know what she was looking at. She was completely zoned out and think about all the terrible things that were happening and how it was all her fault. Why did she put all of these amazing and wonderful people into such a horrible situation? Why was she being so selfish? She hated herself. What was she thinking?

She was pulled out of her trance when she saw Mordred extend his hand out. She reluctantly grabbed it. Mordred guided her to the end of his bed. She knew exactly what he was doing. She didn't want this to happen. She was already being selfish and she didn't need to be anymore selfish. She felt Mordred grab her hand. She felt a large lump form in her throat as she choked back tears. She looked into Mordred's eyes and tried to hide what she was feeling but she knew she wasn't doing a very good job. Mordred pulled her in close and began to to comfort her. That's when she lost it. She started to silently cry into her brother's arms.

Her thoughts first wandered to Ailey. Her best friend was going through the worst thing possible with Jasper. Melody worried that their beautiful relationship was over- and shortly after she gave birth to two beautiful baby girls. How could someone leave Ailey and those two girls? Melody thought about tearing Ailey from her girls. That was her doing. That must have been impossible. She made her best friend leave her two new born baby girls behind. How could she make Ailey do that? How? Ailey deserved all the love in the world. Why did Melody pull her away from the humans she loved most Melody wanted Ailey to be happy. She wanted her to live the best life ever- and because of her the exact opposite was happening. Melody had also sensed a lot of tension between herself and Tobias. Melody didn't know much about the two of them but she could tell Ailey didn't want to be around him. Then she thought about the Unbreakable Vow. Because of her, Ailey was going to have to take an Unbreakable Vow. She had to live in fear of death if she spoke anything about this. She had two baby girls and a family at home. How could Melody allow something like this to happen. She felt like she was tearing Ailey's life apart. She would never forgive herself for that.

Her thoughts shifted over to Tobias and Jack. Two men who Melody knew a little. She knew Jack more than she knew Tobias. She knew Jack had been through a lot- even with Ailey. How hard it must have been to see each other. Of course, that was her fault too. She was taking Jack away from his life for who knew how long to make wands and be the bonder of the Unbreakable Vow. That would not be easy. And Tobias... he had to invite strangers into his home. That could not have been easy either. Why was she causing so many people so much pain? This was the exact opposite of what she wanted to accomplish in life. She felt awful.

Then her thoughts drifted to Mordred. Then man who she saved. She could have saved him earlier if she wasn't so stupid. He could have been freed from unspeakable pain if she had just tried or even thought of trying. Ever since her first attempt at rescuing him many months ago, that thought tore her up. And she failed the first time. She caused him even more pain because she couldn't simply apparate away. But now... even after saving him. She still lived in fear that Tony was out there. Her brother could still be in danger, but now she knew he was. That stupid Unbreakable Vow. He would once again have to live in fear of death every single day. She wanted to take that away from him. Not this. He had been through so much and she felt like she was putting him back in the same situation- fearing death every second of every day.

How could she be so selfish? How did she not think of these possibilities before she decided to do this? How could she have been so stupid. Everything that was happening was her fault. No one else's. She was creating misery in other's lives. They could have been off living happily- or worrying about their own problems instead of this if she had just kept her mouth shut. She was causing four people unspeakable emotional pain and she hated herself for it.

After Melody finally started to calm down, she took a deep breath. "I love you too." Melody replied. She didn't know why she deserved to be loved by someone she was hurting really bad. Melody let the last of her tears (for now) fall and she gently pulled away. Mordred stated that they should probably head downstairs. "You're right." She replied. "Let's just go now." Melody didn't want to go downstairs, but she knew she had to eventually.

She followed Mordred downstairs. Her nose was immediately hit by the smell of food, but she wasn't very hungry. In fact, the last thing she wanted to do was eat. She saw him. It was Jack. She hadn't seen him in many many years. He looked good. He looked like he was doing well. He was gabbing away about something and Ailey was intently listening. She felt herself smile a little as old memories came flooding back to her head. She was glad to see Ailey distracted for a least a little while. She needed it.

An hour after his arrival, Jack found himself sitting at the kitchen table sharing a very animated story with Ailey. Tobias was nowhere to be seen, but that wasn't a surprise. His good friend had a poor habit of needing to be constantly on the move. It was strange that despite the amount of time that had gone by, that talking with Ailey was just as easy as it always was. He was also really enjoying the company of Melody and Mordred.

Tobias didn't go into much detail about what was going on. He knew Melody from Hogwarts and remembered that despite their difference in age that she was always very close to Ailey. He always liked her - very kind, sweet, and supportive of everything. Part of him wondered what she thought of him now after he left Ailey years ago. For some reason he doubted she held any resentment against him, Melody didn't seem to be that type of person.

As he sat there telling the story to Ailey, he watched as her eyes followed Mordred. There was something sad behind the green and he could not help but wonder if she was feeling his thoughts or whatever it was she did. All he knew that sometimes her control over it was limited when it came to moments of stress. But it wasn't his place to ask. He continued telling his story, hoping to help bring a smile to everyone's face.

A few hours later Tobias entered. Jack stood up to shake his hand and then the two excused their self into another room to discuss what was happening. He followed his old friend and waved a friendly goodbye to Ailey and his new friends. Tobias led him to a room in the back, what Jack knew to be Tobias' office. He sat down on a old, flowery, couch and Tobias sat across from him. It didn't take long for him to explain the complexity of the situation. Jack knew what had to be done. It wouldn't be the first time and he was sure it wouldn't be the last.

Ailey watched as Jack and Tobias walked away into the other room. She presumed it was to discuss logicists about the unbreakable vow and the wands and well, everything that was happening around them. Tobias was a man of few words and Ailey doubted he wanted to talk it all over again in front of everyone. She reached forward on the table and piled a few sausages on her plate and cut them up, getting lost in her thoughts. Eating seemed to be more of a chore; she only did it because she needed a strong body to be there for her daughters. Soon Shiloh would be off with Jasper... and she knew that everything would only be so much more difficult without her always around.

As she ate she felt anger course throughout her body. She would never understand how Jasper could up and leave her and the daughters. Traveling was an important part of both their lives, but he was a father now. He had to step up and accept responsibility. Shouldn't his father - the grandfather of the twins understand that? Ailey hated to hold him back... but their children should always take priority. At least her knew job allowed her to live mostly in one place and it was in Europe. Why couldn't he have found a job in central Europe to be with all of them?

The thought made her hate him. She never knew it was possible. Suddenly, she felt herself dropping the fork onto her plate as tears returned to her eyes. It was all she ever did. She hated him but yet she loved him. "I'm just going to..." Ailey stood up. With everything that Mordred and Melody were experiencing, she didn't want to bring more pain to them. It wasn't fair. With a silent sob, she pushed her chair in and turned around, strolling up the stairs.

Ailey sat down in a chair in her room and curled her legs up underneath her. How was she meant to be a single mother? She didn't tell Melody yet about her new job and that she had accepted it. Soon she would be leaving Hogwarts and Ireland. Everything was changing. Nothing was ever going to be the same. And she had to do it all without Jasper, the man who was meant to be by her side throughout it all. Something seemed to boil in her veins. Ailey allowed a few tears to fall from her face before suddenly standing up. She found herself facing an ugly lamp. Every sense of control seemed to slip her mind as she grabbed onto it and hurled it across the room.

"Shit" she cried as she collapsed in a heap of heartbreak and pain. The shards of glass littered the dusty floor but she didn't care. Nothing was fair.

As soon as Tobias came in, he walked into the other room with this man who was named Jack. Mordred didn't want the man who brought this positive vibe into the room to leave but he knew he had to get caught up on everything. Mordred hoped he wouldn't be brought down upon learning everything. It was so nice to see a smiling face and he didn't want to see anymore sadness. Almost instantly after the two men left, the mood in the room dropped. He felt his heart sink again instead of listening to a story from a smiling man. He hated it but he kept his mouth shut.

Mordred looked over at Melody who wasn't eating. Her gaze was still far in distance. Mordred grabbed his plate and put some food on it. Not much, only a little bit to hold her over for a little while. He tapped her shoulder gently and offered her the plate. He saw Melody shake her head and turn back away. She seemed to be avoiding eye contact. Why was she doing that? He didn't ask questions. He moved the plate closer as Melody continued to ignore it. Mordred leaned over to hear. "Just eat what's on your plate. It can take hours, I don't care. Eat." He instructed. He smiled a little as Melody grabbed her fork and began to take little bites.

His focus moved to Ailey. He didn't stare, but he kept her in his line of vision. Melody was right, something was definitely wrong. She seemed worse than yesterday if that was even possible. Mordred felt his heart sink as her gaze looked even farther away than Melody's. What was going through her head. He noticed tears start to fill her eyes. Something was definitely off. Mordred watched as Ailey excused herself and walked away. Something was way off and he didn't like it. Melody was just about to run off to Ailey when Mordred grabbed her arm to stop her. "You. Couch. Rest. Now." Mordred stated. Melody tried to argue back but he wasn't having it.

Mordred grabbed a cup of tea and Melody's arm and gently guided her to the couch. He made sure she sat down and fully relaxed. He placed a blanket over her and handed her the cup of tea. "Take some you time." He said. "I'll go see Ailey" He said before she could speak. Mordred started to head upstairs to Ailey but watched Melody for a few moments first. He wanted to make sure she was following his orders. Sure enough, she was. He smiled a little and headed up the stairs.

Mordred paused as he stood in the hallway. He wasn't sure which room was Ailey's. That's when it hit him. He was doing this without any hesitation. He just sat his little sister- her best friend downstairs so she could rest and he could talk to her. He had never done anything like this in his life. Why was he doing this for Ailey? He didn't know why, but what he did know was that he wanted Ailey to be happy. But now, he had to figure out which room was hers. He didn't want to just barge in or knock randomly on all the doors.

He suddenly heard a loud crash along with a cry that made him jump. That was Ailey. What happened? He walked up to the door that he heard the crash from and hesitated. Anything could happen after this knock. He wasn't sure what was going to happen so he prepared himself for anything. He took a deep breath and lightly knocked at the door. "Ailey, are you alright? May I come in?" He asked in a comforting tone. This was all so new to him but he felt like he was doing a good job.

Melody sat completely zoned out at the table. She was still thinking about all the people she was hurting. She didn't even notice Tobias come in and Jack leave. She couldn't look at anyone. She couldn't face them. Ailey was away from her daugthers and who knows what would happen with everything that was going on and Mordred was about to fear death again every single day. And Tobias and Jack... Melody choked back more tears. She questioned how she even had tears left.

She was taken out of her trance by Mordred offering her food. She shook her head and looked away again. Shortly after, she heard Mordred whispering in her ear, instructing her to eat. Melody sighed softly and looked at the plate of food. It wasn't a lot. She could force it down. She grabbed her fork and divided her food up into the smallest bits possible. She didn't want to eat but she didn't want to say no to her brother again when he was only looking out for her.

She wasn't even halfway done with her food when Ailey excused herself. Melody felt a really bad vibe coming off of her. She went to stand up and follow her, but Mordred pulled her back. "But, Ailey. I can't rest she is obviously distressed and I can't-" Mordred cut her off again by shaking his head. "But-" He placed a finger on her lips. Melody sighed. "Okay. I'll rest. Melody allowed Mordred to walk her over to the couch. She sat down with another little sigh. She pulled up the blanket which he placed over her and took the cup of tea. It felt warm in between her cold shaking hands. Melody didn't want to take time for herself. She wanted to see Ailey. Before she could argue again Mordred said something that took her by surprised. He would go see Ailey. Melody didn't argue. If he wanted to go see Ailey, she wasn't about to stop him.

Melody sat silently with her cup of tea. She could see the steam flying into the air and disappearing. Seeing tea made her think of Morgana. Morgana... Normally around this time, Morgana would be making her way to St. Mungo's to visit her. Melody missed that. It was only the first day she didn't get to see Morgana she missed her. She wondered how long it would take before Morgana started to worry. Before she went looking for her at St. Mungo's. Melody would normally communicate with Morgana during times she was away for more than a few days. What was she going to think? What if Melody lost her relationship with Morgana? Just how much worry was she going to cause her? What was going to happen? Not too recently, but not too long ago, she had celebrated her one year anniversary with her. It was the best day of her life. They did so many wonderful things together. The memories swirled through her head along with everything else she had done with Morgana. Was she about to lose all those happy memories because of this choice? Was she going to lose Morgana and watch those beautiful memories turn dull? Even after all this, Melody had to lie. What would Morgana think? What if she thought that she was seeing someone else?

Melody watched as tears fell into her tea cup. She wasn't going to drink that now. She set it to the side and sighed. All she wanted was to be in Morgana's arms. She wanted to feel safe and protected. She wanted to feel Morgana's love, her touch. She wanted to hear her voice and see her smile. She wanted crawl into her arms and sob while she caressed her hair and showered her in love, but she couldn't have that. Maybe she wouldn't be able to have it anymore after this. She felt more tears fall down her face. She wiped them away and sat silently as her inner demons started to take over for the first time in a really long time.

Tears were falling rapidly from Ailey's eyes, but she didn't care. Whatever guttural sound was coming from her throat, she also didn't care about. All she felt like doing was sobbing on the floor. It was all she had the will and energy to do. How was she supposed to help Mordred and Meldoy when all she could think about was herself? She felt so narcissistic; for once in her life couldn't she just put herself aside?

As she continued to cry, feeling as if the world was literally crashing down around her, a soft knock rapping sounded at the door. She ignored her. She had a feeling if she stood up that she would just collapse into a heap once again. So she laid there, in a ball, with her forehead pressed against the floor. It was easier than moving.

A second passed
And then another

Her tears continued to fall.

Jack knew what he needed to do. Three wands: one for Ailey, one for Melody, and one for Mordred. Mordred - who never had a wand before. A beginners wand... an easy wand. He wracked his brain for a moment, thinking about what he would need. The good thing about the Black Forest was that it was littered with almost everything one would need to make wands. He had the basics with him, though, like phoenix feathers, dragon heartstrings, unicorn hairs, kelpie hairs, thestral hairs, and so forth. But what he needed were woods... and perhaps a bit of this and that. Jack's wandmaking was different from that of Ollivander's. The old man used materials that were mostly the same, like he was stuck in some sort of ancient stubborn box. If only he knew the beauty of pogrebin teeth that made a wand literally shine when placed in the hands of the right witch or wizards... or the glow that was given by a simple defense charm when the hair of a merperson was used.

The second thing that Jack had to do - the most important, was the one he was looking forward to the least. An Unbreakable was literal the last thing he ever wanted to place anyone in. But he knew of its importance. If anyone at all was to find out what they were up to, everyone would be thrown into Azkaban without even glancing at a trial. It was far too dangerous to risk it. He had a son. If anything were to happen to him... he couldn't even think about it.

Tobias left the cottage once again after their meeting. Mordred and Ailey were nowhere to be in sight. Were they together? He looked around, hoping to hear some noise, but he heard nothing. He was just about to take a bite of toast when he saw Melody sitting on the couch. She was so quiet that he didn't even notice her. She looked absolutely miserable as if she was stuck in between worlds of anguish and thoughts.

He put his toast down and sat on a chair across from her, crossing his legs. For a few moments, he looked at her, studying her emotions. What was going through her mind? "You know," he started to say as he leaned forward. "I've gone through this, with Ailey, before. Twice, actually...it has a way of bringing out what makes us the most vulnerable. For me, now, that would be my son. But years ago? It was her. And we fought, and fought, and fought..." He hesitated and looked at her again, watching as the sun came into the room. "Whatever it is you're going through... you're doing the right thing."

Mordred heard horrible sobbing coming from Ailey's room. The sound of it broke his heart. For a very brief moment, he was pulled into his own thoughts in the form of a vivid flashback.

~FLASHBACK~

Fifteen year old Mordred ran through the woods out of breath. His vision was a completely blur as he dashed through the open meadow, trying desperately to find a place to hide. He had finally escaped Tony's clutches once again and felt very confident about escaping this time. He paused for a moment and looked around- still no place to hide. He took a deep quick breath and continued running as fast as he could. He heard yelling and screaming behind him but he didn't bother to listen. He kept as low to the ground as possible without falling over. Just to his left, he saw a small cave he could fit into. Mordred ducked even lower to the ground and ran inside the cave.

As he sat in silence, he heard a soft squeak come from behind him. He jumped as he turned to his side. Next to him was a girl no older than him. She looked just as bad as he did. They both stared at each other for a few moments. A dark shadow appeared over the top of them. They both held completely still and held their breath until it went away. They waited a few more minutes before facing each other again. "What are you doing here like this?" Mordred asked breaking the silence.

"I could ask you the same question." The girl responded.

"Is someone looking for you?" Mordred asked quietly.

The girl nodded. "My brother. He uses me to hurt this boy and I hate it." The girl's eyes widened as she looked at Mordred with a clearer vision. "You're him. I'm so sorry." She said holding back tears.

Mordred sat in stunned silence. Tony was using his little sister to hurt him? He was obviously hurting her a well. What was going through Tony's head. Why was he hurting all these innocent people? Even his family... Mordred couldn't help but stare at the girl with sadness. It wasn't fair. Why was all this happening and what was his motive?

~FLASHBACK END~

Mordred suddenly snapped out of his flashback and carefully opened the door to Ailey's room. What he saw shattered his heart even more. Ailey was on the floor- a complete mess. Mordred felt tears sting his own eyes. Besides Melody, he had never been around someone who was hurting so bad. In fact, besides Melody he had never been around someone. Without much thinking, Mordred walked over to Ailey and picked her off the ground. He carried her in his arms and sat down in a chair placed in the room. He held Ailey tightly in his arms as he wiped the tears from her cheeks and brushed the hair gently out of her face. He didn't say anything. He didn't know what to say. He knew phrases like 'it's going to be okay, you're alright, or everything works out in the end' weren't ever comforting to hear. Those phrases never helped. He simply held Ailey close to him without letting go. He allowed her to cry into him.

Mordred took a moment to think about what he was doing. In his arms, he held a sobbing woman he hardly knew. Yet, he didn't mind. He didn't think twice about it. He just... did it. He could feel her unsteady breathing coming from her tiny body sitting on his lap. His arms were wrapped all the way around her tightly, but not too tight that she couldn't breathe. Just enough that she felt protected and comforted. The last thing he wanted to do was let her go. He simply sat and let her get her emotions out. He would sit there for hours if he needed to. He wanted to see that beautiful smile of Ailey's again. At least once.

Melody was completely lost in her thoughts. She didn't even notice Jack looking at her. She felt like she was in a different world. His voice scared her a little bit. She looked up to see Jack sitting across from her. He went through this Ailey? Melody never knew that. Not once but twice? She wondered what Ailey had gone through on her nights without her. Melody didn't know anything about that. She knew Ailey was in pain that it hurt her, but it was this bad? Many strange and horrible feelings came back to her making her eyes fill with even more tears.

She couldn't bear to look at him. She knew if she did, a lot of beautiful memories with better times would come flooding back to her. With the emotional state she was in, she knew she would absolutely break down. She couldn't do that right now. She had to be strong for everyone else. She couldn't let them know how she was feeling. It was selfish and unfair. She simply shook her head and swallowed the lump in her throat before attempting to speak. "But it wasn't. Look at how many people I'm hurting." She said softly. She could feel herself starting to break down again. Her body was shaking and she tried her best to calm down. This wasn't the way she wanted to greet Jack again after all these years. The feelings of selfishness, anger, guilt, and hate came flooding back even stronger if that was even possible.

As Ailey's tears continued to fall she heard the creak of the door as it opened. She opened her eyes just enough to see a shadow moving from in between the cracks her crossed arms made. The footsteps were too heavy to be Melody's. She continued to cry, whether or not it was because she was already crying, she did not know, but the tears came on worse. Before she knew it, she was being lifted into somebody's warm arms. She shut her eyes tight as she felt herself being carried to the chair in her room.

Her mind was opened wide and vulnerable. Usually, she would be able to control her emotions legilimens, but now was definitely not one of those times. A monster like image of tentacles reaching out opened her mind to the one next to her. A man, a man she barely knew, but one with a kindness to him enveloped her as he sat there. He was patient... but worried. Worried about her. His presence was too kind to fit the rough exterior of Tobias. And his thoughts were too soothing to belong to those of the boisterous Jack.

Ailey opened her eyes and looked up at Mordred. Her tears continued to race down her face, blurring the freckles on her cheeks, but they were starting to slow down. She looked at him, watching him, and feeling his thoughts. They weren't racing like hers normally did. They were calm. Steady. Patient, guarded, and protective. "Why are you so kind to me?" She whispered. It wasn't her intention to sound rude. But he was a stranger. He had been through so much. Why was he treating her the way he was? She should be the one protecting him and making sure he had everything he needed.

She could not fathom how someone who lived in the conditions he had for most of his life would trust anyone, especially a stranger. He had no reason to be kind to anyone. The world had been so cruel to him. Yet, there he was, holding onto her as if he had known her for a million years as if he was trying to battle away the worst of her demons. He was incredible.

A memory of Ailey sitting at home with Jasper the night she found out she was pregnant flashed through her mind. They were sitting at a small table in his loft. A clock was ticking somewhere in the distance. A million different visions of Ailey's future passed through her mind. It felt wrong to bring a child into the world. After all she had gone through with the Magical Brotherhood of Eire, after all the crimes she had committed, after the memory charms she used to deceive others... the world was a dark place and she wanted nothing more than to bring light to it.

As she cried at the table Jasper grasped onto her hand. "Together, we can get through anything," he told her. And she believed it. She did. But he sat on the other side of the table, talking about how excited he was to be a father, minimizing how she felt. It wasn't the first time he did it and it certainly wouldn't be the last.

She adjusted her eyes to the present day and nuzzled her head against Mordred's chest. She wasn't sure why she did it, but the comfort and the touch felt nice. With him there, she wasn't alone.
